live, love, laugh...now

everything moves so quickly. the year's almost over. we're almost
another year older. the seasons are changing quicker. its nice to sit
for a second and not think about the future so much, and just enjoy
the present. do we ever?

my friend maya gave me a set of questions to answer a little while
back for her blog, and i loved them because it forces you to think
about what you're doing at this very moment, so i decided to try this
again...

I'm listening to no doubt- tragic kingdom
I'm buying less
I'm holding on to my glasses
I'm excited about going to yoga regularly
I'm spending time organizing
I'm eating shrimp pad thai
I'm drinking hot chocolate
I'm reading the richest man that ever lived
I'm shopping at estate jewelry shops
I'm watching coco before chanel
I'm hanging out at cafes [the above is at epistrophy]
I'm giving up laziness
I'm collecting lipsticks in different shades
I can't live without my sisters and real friends
I'm traveling to chicago

what would your responses say about you?

grey skies

all i want to do on grey days is stay home. close my curtains, lay in
bed, eat, sleep and watch movies. [could you imagine if i lived in london?]

but i did the exact opposite, even though on top of dismal skies, the
weather was very chilly. got dressed, put on my favorite blouse that
automatically makes me feel happy for some reason because it has a heart
on it. not sure why. went down to the meat packing district and grabbed
dinner with my friend chantal.

good food. good friends. always worth pulling yourself out of bed for.

i love to dig in my closet and find things that i forgot i owned, like these suspender pants. it's a cute concept that you could do to any pair of jeans by sewing on buttons, or just go the easy route of trusty clip-on suspenders. cute D.I.Y either way.

new york, the new windy city

i'm convinced that new york is now the windy city. but
right on time for chunky hand-made sweaters [i'm sure
everyone has one buried in their closet somewhere, if
not you should start knitting/crocheting now!]

and i refuse to stop wearing my favorite sandals just
because summer's over.

the best part about living in new york is
the melting pot of people from different
backgrounds and various professions that
you meet. I met Maya, who has an awesome
style site called Turned Out,through a
friend of mine. the outcome- the wonderful
photo's shown above, and of course a new
friendship.

the jumpsuit, one of my favorite pieces,
was purchased during a trip to kansas city
for $11. random small towns like this are
the best places to thrift shop, they have the
gems that people aren't hoarding.

the pink pleated slip from victoria's secret,
worn with thigh-hi socks from a gift bag at the
karen walker show during last season's
fashion week, reminds me of a raggedy ann
doll I once had.

life is all about playing dress up. why not?

fashion week is just a couple of hours away,
with shows starting tomorrow along with the
big fashion night out [which everyone should
partake]. i'm actually looking forward to it-
the shows, the parties and having a reason to
dress-up [not that I need any]. although,
i tend to gravitate towards more easy breezy
looks like this one [which I shot for turned
out again]. it's nice to go baggy when everyone's
doing a straight leg, and flowy when they're all
wearing skin-tight pieces. it's good to mix it
up a bit.

Nonetheless, I'll be bringing you into the tents
with me or in most cases, recession-chic venues
outside of the tents. stay tuned...

I love leather.
which is something I definitely get from
my mom, who would wear head to toe leather
ensembles...so old school. she bought me
these leather shorts when I was about 16
years old from wilson's leather store [not
sure if they're even still around] and
occasionally she'd find purchases like this
that I would agree on.

I had an epiphany when I put these on for
the first time in a while for a summer friday
roof top party...this is why people hold on
to pieces forever! I appreciate the shorts
now, more than I ever did back in high school.
that's the beauty with classic pieces, even
though it's a bit of a non-traditional classic
[if that makes sense].

and of course the karl lagerfeld aka "kaiser"
t-shirt is timeless without mention.

i'm having a lingerie moment...again. which
may be frowned upon by some. but my roll out
of bed look isn't your typical hipster t-shirt
and cut off shorts. I'm a silk slip and nighty
kind of girl.

it's effortless but still together and lady-like.
and topping it off with great heels takes it
from- i literally just rolled out of bed, to
having an actual pulled together look.

I was heading to an art showcase for my sister, danielle
and my niece, run by a not-for-profit organization called
bronx river arts center. given the heat-wave, I pulled my
hair up into a high chignon and wore my boyfriend's
button-down shirt [my way of being formal but still casual]
adding red lips, since it is an art show after all.

I was blown away by the talented group of 5-18 year-olds
and their level of creativity, the work above [which I
could barely edit down] speaks for itself.

interpreting the world through their own lens without
any boundaries is what I admired most about them.

blue suede shoes

I cannot and will not buy another thing [for now]. that's my new rule [for now]. fall's coming, new season, new reason to shop but instead i'm going to dig into my storage bins and make everything new again. I like to think of it as a  creative project.

take these blue suede shoes for instance, bought these at  my very first manolo blahnik sample sale for $100 on a lunch break during an internship at a fashion magazine 5 years ago. these shoes have history behind them [the time, the place-that crazy sample sale which I'll never step foot back into again]. long story short, there's no good reason why I've only worn them once. simply a fashion waste. i'm turning over a new leaf- how appropriate for the season, right?

[by the way please excuse the delayed post, fashion week beat me into a pulp.]

the sartorialust

i'm beyond excited that scott schuman aka the sartorialist has published his first book, it's an amazing compilation of his photography. it's like you can carry his blog in your bag now. he has this keen eye for capturing style in different places around the globe which makes him an exceptional talent, and also why I was honored to be apart of his book [it's the red dress image at the bottom of this page]. tons of followers, friends and fashion folk came out to the book signing at barney's new york. and the lovely garance dore [the woman to the left], is the french female version of scott. she's amazingly chic and so is her blog [she's my new girl crush]. it has a very personalized tone with adorable illustrations.

like these two, i appreciate all style, so i most certainly appreciate their inspirational work.

*the dress, i actually found at a thrift shop for $20! it was made for me the moment i tried it on. the upside and downside to buying things at thrift shops are that there's almost always just one piece. if you love it so much you want to buy a second- you're out of luck.

xx

noir

the little black dress is the most over-talked
about item in fashion, but definitely not overrated.
there are certain images that come to mind with
an all black look - chic, french, sophisticated,
serious. for the first time i found a black dress
that I was actually excited about and shared the
sentiment that everyone had always been raving about
[I honestly thought it was boring]. But I've finally
found one that I love. j'adore LBD.
