live, love, laugh...now

everything moves so quickly. the year's almost over. we're almost
another year older. the seasons are changing quicker. its nice to sit
for a second and not think about the future so much, and just enjoy
the present. do we ever?

my friend maya gave me a set of questions to answer a little while
back for her blog, and i loved them because it forces you to think
about what you're doing at this very moment, so i decided to try this
again...

I'm listening to no doubt- tragic kingdom
I'm buying less
I'm holding on to my glasses
I'm excited about going to yoga regularly
I'm spending time organizing
I'm eating shrimp pad thai
I'm drinking hot chocolate
I'm reading the richest man that ever lived
I'm shopping at estate jewelry shops
I'm watching coco before chanel
I'm hanging out at cafes [the above is at epistrophy]
I'm giving up laziness
I'm collecting lipsticks in different shades
I can't live without my sisters and real friends
I'm traveling to chicago

i love to dig in my closet and find things that i forgot i owned, like these suspender pants. it's a cute concept that you could do to any pair of jeans by sewing on buttons, or just go the easy route of trusty clip-on suspenders. cute D.I.Y either way.

I love leather.
which is something I definitely get from
my mom, who would wear head to toe leather
ensembles...so old school. she bought me
these leather shorts when I was about 16
years old from wilson's leather store [not
sure if they're even still around] and
occasionally she'd find purchases like this
that I would agree on.

I had an epiphany when I put these on for
the first time in a while for a summer friday
roof top party...this is why people hold on
to pieces forever! I appreciate the shorts
now, more than I ever did back in high school.
that's the beauty with classic pieces, even
though it's a bit of a non-traditional classic
[if that makes sense].

and of course the karl lagerfeld aka "kaiser"
t-shirt is timeless without mention.

out of africa

a couple of years ago a good friend of mine,
baze mpinja brought back some amazing fabrics
from a trip visiting her family in congo. I
had plans of making chic dresses and tops for
us, which I unfortunately never got around to.
until one hot day the fabric re-surfaced when
I needed a bandeau, it was perfectly put to use.

a brand new day

whether we like to acknowledge it or not,
there is a conscious effort put forth by
everyone when getting dressed in the morning.
whether they look good or not, that's subjective.
but I appreciate all of it, the good, the bad,
and the ugly, because it's what creates personal
style. a fraction of fashion is simply that, an
appreciation of the art of style and what inspires.
love it, leave it, or just look away.
